Bulgarian-born international pianist and conductor Ivan Yanakov has performed on all five continents. His appearances include Carnegie Hall’s Recital Hall in New York, Cadogan Hall in London, Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre, Sydney Town Hall, Sapporo Concert Hall, Taiwan National Concert Hall and Shanghai Oriental Arts Centre.
He earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at Mannes College of Music in New York and continued his studies as a full-scholarship fellow at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena. He is a recipient of the Artists International Debut Series Prize at Carnegie Hall.
His project The Four Pianists blends classical music with jazz, bringing classical and jazz pianists together on stage. The ensemble has given multiple successful sold-out concerts before 4,000-strong audiences.
Yanakov founded the London Chamber Players and made his conducting debut with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra. Alongside his work as a recitalist and orchestral soloist, he explores chamber music.
His performances have been heard on television and radio across Europe, Asia and North America, including Hong Kong’s RTHK and broadcasts from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. His recordings range from Beethoven and Liszt to Franck, Haydn, Rachmaninoff and contemporary music.
As an educator, he gives masterclasses internationally, including at the Birmingham Conservatoire and Hong Kong Baptist University, and serves on international piano competition juries. He has chaired the jury of the Russian Piano Music Competition in Sanremo.
His 2026 recording of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with the London Symphony Orchestra and Nayden Todorov follows his solo album for Evidence Classics, Franck, Haydn, Rachmaninoff.
Yanakov is a thoughtful aesthete and lyricist who pays attention to euphony and magically captivates the listener with his sophisticated sound direction.
It is this aspect of Rachmaninov, delicate but full of life, that Yanakov highlights.
